The School Site Council consists of an equal number of
parents and staff members and has the responsibility for developing a
school plan and assessment criteria and a budget to support the plan.
For the current year there will be continued focus on
the academic goal areas of reading, writing, and mathematics.
Differentiated instruction, closing the achievement gap, and a
school-wide life skills program will also be areas of focus for the
2006/7 school year.
School Site Council meetings are held the first Monday
of each month from 2:40-4:10 p.m. and are open to the public. Agendas
are posted in the school office at least 48 hours prior to each
meeting. A summary of the meetings is published in the school
newsletter, NixonNews. Also, a notebook with School Site
Council agendas and minutes is available in the school office for
review and minutes are posted on the Nixon web site (see below).
The School Site Council is critical for school planning
and program implementation. Members of the School Site Council are
selected by their peers - staff members select staff representatives
and parents elect parent members. Members are elected in May. The terms
of office are two (2) years in length and are staggered with three
parents and either two or three teachers being selected each year. |
